Brothers, Sisters, and Friends of the AHEPA
Family ~
The Brotherhood of the Capital District 3 as the
entire Order of AHEPA is blessed with the longstanding
traditions of our many members and supporters of our District's
contribution to AHEPA and our organization's history.
As we look back on the strength of our
Brotherhood, we can clearly see the results of a collective
voice in our message to uphold the virtues of HELLENISM in all
that we do to serve our Country, Communities and Church.
Near this completion of our stellar 2009-2010
AHEPA Capital District #3 year, we are drawn to the wonderful
District programs as our Chapters answer the call to serve and
assist our Church and Communities.
Brothers, we truly are the Hellenic Example
leading the Hellenic Experience and have done so since 1922,
when the 8 founding members: Br. Nicholas D. Chotas, Br. James
Campbell, Br. S. J. Stamos, Br. Harry Angelopoulos, Br. George
A. Polos, Br. John Angelopoulos, Br. George Campbell,
and Br. James Vlass established the Mother Lodge Chapter 1
of the Order of AHEPA in Atlanta Georgia.
It is with great pride that we again bring your
attention to a momentous occasion, one that we truly regard as a
milestone for our Capital District #3, the 80th
Anniversary of the founding of the Woodrow Wilson Chapter No.
241 of Newport News, Virginia.
By invitation from Woodrow Wilson No. 241 and
Chapter President Nick Matthews, District Governor Steve
Mavronis and District #3 Lt. Governor Demetrius Govotsos were
comforted by the gracious hospitality of our Newport News
Woodrow Wilson Chapter and its fine tradition of AHEPANs, their
families and friends of the Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek
Orthodox Church Community and Priest Father George
Chioros.
We were immediately greeted and
embraced by our partners in Hellenism, members of the Daughters
of Penelope lead by DOP District Governor Christine Vassilakis,
DOP Lt. Governor Jackie Anas and DOP District Secretary Kathy
Matthews - all hail from this Newport News area. The care of
Brother Nick Matthews could not go unnoticed as he was fervently
working in the Kitchen preparing our meals. Wow - the talented
Chapter President "a cook" of the evening who would leave his
post to address the attendees at the podium - is this a familiar
scene at Chapter events!
Our evening started with a
cocktail hour of conversation with our very own District
3 Athletic Director Alex Papadopoulos spinning the DJ Music. It
was evident throughout our many conversations that our Brothers
and Sisters in Newport News, VA have really set the mark when it
comes to answering the call for community leadership and are
especially coordinated with our past and present initiatives:
WE - GOTO - THE - CHURCH &
COMMUNITY !!!
